Exercise 6-6...Need Explanation Pls

Could someone explain to me how exercise 6 works and how to do it? The answers posted here don't really explain to me how the exercise is completed. I don't know how to do the mathematical part and then how to implement it into code.

[Overcoming]

I just posted my solution to the problem today. I included a summary of how the program works at the top and I also have comments at key sections of the program. I'll be happy to explain more if needed. I'm not sure if my way is the most efficient but it works. Took me sometime to figure this one out. It was "Hard".
