Although I am very new here, Wendy Mui is a good friend, and not the only one who recommended this book highly!  I'm grateful to have learned about it.  I've been through more than one language text in my life, and can add my voice to the chorus of praise!

Just starting Chapter 7.  Had some problems with "scanf" in Ex 6.8, but found the answers here in the appropriate forum topic.  Just excellent!

I am very thankful for this forum since it is both helpful AND friendly.  Sometimes I have been loathe to post on the comp.lang.objective-c group because it is occasionally not friendly.  There have been many times that I have seen people acting superior to others when I know that we are not born knowing computer languages. Everyone had to learn the language.  I hate it when other people snap at each other, call each other names, an just generally are not helpful with their answers.  It is a waste of everyone else's time when they try to read through older posts.

On this forum, there is a friendly (non-superior) attitude with good explanations when we get hung up on a subject.

I hope in the future that more helpful people will find the forum to free up some of Steve's time so he doesn't feel that he needs to respond to every question.  Thanks for checking often at the early stages of this forum Steve.

Linda,

Yes, I agree with you 100%!   I am so pleased with the willingness of other forum members to help out and for providing a non-intimidating environment so that new programmers can post their questions here without getting scolded or humiliated.

Cheers,

Where might one find the "link to download all the program examples"? I've been looking for it on the book's website (http://www.informit.com/store/product.aspx?isbn=9780321566157) and this forum for too long. Stephen, it would be great if you provided a link in your first post to this thread where you mention the download.

The examples are posted for each chapter on the board.  Unfortunately, I don't have a single link that downloads all the examples at once.

Thanks Stephen for starting this.
Got here from Amazon.com searching for the best book to learn Objective-C.
Going to order your book this week.  My other iPhone book is Beginning iPhone Development Exploring the iPhone SDK by Mark and LaMarche, but I was way too fast on the draw and now must purchase their new edition.  I'm a start from scratch, "techno-agnostic" (MAC and PC) web developer from the mid 90's and do loads of it, but want to learn this language.  I especially like what you wrote about not having to learn C before you start Objective-C.

New guy here!  Grin

Having fun with Objective C...  or at least trying to Roll Eyes

I think I am going to have to start hanging out in these forums so I can grasp some of the more abstract concepts.

Joe

Hello Everyone!

Just wanted to drop in and say how grateful I am for having a forum that focuses on this book and subject.  A lot of things become much clearer when you have an active community that can respond to any real or perceived problems.  I don't come from a programming background, so I'll probably end up asking a lot of questions that may seem trivial or obvious...just warning you guys in advance!

Vinny,

Welcome to the forum.  We don't get intimidated here by lots of questions, so ask away!  Smiley

Best of luck,

Steve Kochan
