Greetings from the desert.

I am 41 years old, living in Phoenix and hanging on to a job as an airline pilot.

My whole life has been driven by an interest in computers.  I tell people that I only work so that I can support my computer/tech habit.

My first computer was an Atari 800 many moons ago.  I taught myself BASIC on that Atari and subsequent Apple IIe.  In college, I had to switch to PCs and taught myself a little bit of Turbo Pascal.  But those experiences were a long time ago.

I've been a Mac guy for the last 7 years and have fooled around learning UNIX and scripting as a hobby an eventually realized that I could make apps as good or better than some I have used over the years if I just knew how to program in modern code.

I took a C++ class online last fall and then started on version one of Steve's book (a few chapters) but decided to wait for version two.  Since January '09 I have done chapter's 1-8 of the second book TWICE but keep hitting a motivational block at that point.  I am looking forward to breaking that block with this class.

Having used these forums a bit in the past, I am extremely grateful to Steve for how much help and participation he maintains.

I think this class is a great idea and I am ready to move forward at top speed!
